Re: URGENT NOTICE

As you are aware, OCCHA has been the accreditation body for public health units in Ontario, promoting excellence and accountability in public health units since 1981. Our accreditation program Advancing Quality in Public Health, has been well received and has incorporated both the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) and the Ontario Public Health Organizational Standards. In addition, OCCHA has facilitated ongoing knowledge-exchange between  health units through our CQI Advisory Group. During the past 32 years, OCCHA has also collaborated with and received support from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

It is with deepest regret, therefore, that I must inform you that OCCHA has received notice from Roselle Martino, Executive Director, Public Health Division, that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is terminating our 2012-2013 transfer payment agreement and does not wish to enter into any new agreement with OCCHA as of April 1, 2013.

This notice of termination will also result in a transfer payment shortfall of $50,000.00 for the fiscal year April 1, 2012 - March 31, 2013. Given the late notice of termination, this shortfall will also necessitate the cessation of all OCCHA activities, including accreditation surveys and reviews, ongoing meetings of the CQI Advisory Group and any other activities related to continuous quality improvement, effective April 1, 2013.

We strongly encourage you to take any action you feel appropriate to advocate for OCCHA's continued operation. The accreditation program is currently the most tangible tool to demonstrate health units' implementation of and compliance with the Organizational Standards. We are most saddened that our efforts to support continuous quality improvement in public health units will no longer continue. The OCCHA Board of Directors would like to thank you for your support of the accreditation program.

Yours sincerely,

Iqbal Kalsi

Chair, OCCHA Board of Directors
